A new fitness experience.

About me

Hi! my name is Barbara and I’m from Mexico and moved to Texas in 2011. I was a competitive dancer in Mexico and when I was 18 years old, I went to LA for 6 months to learn all the dance genres. I became in love with it so I started teaching dance back in Mexico. After I got married, I kept teaching but then followed my other passion in life, Interior Design. I work at an Interior Design firm called TRIA . I have two beautiful sons and my loving husband, he is an architect who I co-biz with his other passion of outdoor living called Xscape, US.

When Covid hit, there was nothing we could do but stay home and I started gaining weight and feeling self-conscious about my physical appearance. I wanted to burn calories without the need to go out to a gym because #quarantine but also to have fun at the same time. At the time, I had an 18-month baby so I thought the only time I could exercise was at night. I was SO WRONG.

I saw my husband jumping a wire rope since it was a great warm-up for boxing sessions and I googled “How many calories can you burn jumping rope” and this was the answer from Crossropes : “Boosted fat burning: Research has shown that jumping rope can help you burn roughly 1,300 calories per hour and our case studies have proven it.” I WAS HOOKED.

Now we all know that it depends on what that “hour” means and what type of rope you are jumping with but at the same time, this was a great motivation for me to start jumping. All you have to do is start right?

After being with the wire rope for a while I realized that there was a whole JRC (Jump Rope Community) out there supporting each other and creating content every day. That is when it hit me, jump rope is not only a cardio-based exercise, but if you have weighted ropes and have fun with it, this could be it, this could be the IDEAL exercise and with the JRC behind you supporting you, this ends up being a LIFESTYLE. I discover this niche of dance rope which involves dancing with a rope by adding footwork, wraps, and cool moves to your session, and my love for jumping rope and dancing became ONE.

Now I could actually have my dance rope sessions while I watched my kids play outside during quarantine times. Both my kids and myself are having fun, and at the same time I was burning calories. I came to the realization that we can all enjoy a great time together sharing our happiness, together. And the amount of tricks you can learn jumping rope is infinite! That is what I love about it, how vertsatile it is because you get to learn some tricks and try others, then set them aside if you get frustrated and try them later, drill new ones while learning from others. Quarantine gave us dark times of incertitude, so jump rope became my escape for my mental health, and the JRC became my virtual family.

I started jumping in March 2020 with a wired rope. By September 2020 I created my jump rope account on Instagram and by then I had bought PVC ropes and weighted ropes to get me going and immersed myself in this new life called Rope Jumpers. By February 2021, I had received my first photoshoot photos celebrating 1.5k followers, and a few weeks later we were 5k. Now we are over 28k followers on this journey and I’m officially a business owner of Rope Jumpers LLC, and it feels HUMBLING to say the least. This whole experience has been just that, A LIFE EXPERIENCE. Shoutout to everyone who is still following this crazy journey called LOVE for jump rope which has been worthwhile.
